Your Fitness Narrative

Here is a fitness narrative...

You sign up for a membership at a big box gym. It’s conveniently located, you can train anytime, it has all the machines and equipment you’ll ever need, and on top of that, you barely notice the $5 a week you pay in fees.

You start training consistently and you’re getting results. Every morning you show up before work, plug your headphones in and go to town on the treadmill. Or perhaps you take your pre-workout and make a b-line for the barbells and free weights, determined to lift as much as possible.

It’s been 6 months and your motivation begins to waver. You’re stuck for training ideas, your protein shake is causing you digestive issues and you’ve begun to sleep in rather than training, justifying to yourself – “It’s only $5”.

Here is another narrative...

You’ve always loved training in groups and within a community. You want to sweat – it makes you feel a million bucks and doing this with some buddies around you is the perfect way to round out your day. You join your local high-intensity interval training gym – an F45 or BodyFit – and you are loving every second of it. You get results – you start dropping body fat and your fitness goes through the roof.

Sooner or later, however, you begin to get bored of the workouts; perhaps the strength work isn't quite doing it for you and you feel you’re not progressing; or you notice that as soon as you miss a few days of training, the weight seems to come piling back on, like a magnet to your body. Suddenly a couple of your friends jump ship to another gym down the road and the training doesn’t feel that fun anymore

Fitness narrative number 3…

You’ve known about CrossFit for some time now – you’ve seen the documentaries on Netflix. You watch these jacked superhumans hurl weight over their shoulders, run, swim, and then rep out hundreds of pull-ups all within the same workout. You want to be like that – someone that can lift heavy stuff, run long distances, and is supple and mobile, like a gymnast.

You join your local box – it is incredible. The trainers are awesome; they are funny and they make an effort to engage and actually coach. Not to mention, you’re making some pretty cool friends that you see every day – heck – they even text if you don’t show up! You master the basics and are hungry to keep crushing.

Suddenly you notice your knee begin to niggle. Or your right shoulder aching immediately following a set of overheads. You love the training but it just doesn't feel as if your body can keep up. Not to mention the high-stress job you’re also holding down. It pains you, but you need to take some time off – you feel burned out from the intensity. You wonder whether you’ll ever be able to get after another set of heavy deadlifts again, as you sip bone broth in bed on a weekend.

Perhaps one of these is a story you are all too familiar with…

You’re motivated, hardworking, and growth-minded – so where to next? Getting this far has already been a gargantuan effort.

Enter BaseFit.

BaseFit was designed for someone like you – the AnytimeFitnesser looking to transition into functional training; the F45er wanting the next challenge, or the burned-out CrossFitter.

BaseFit is a 12-week educational exercise project designed to enhance a person’s understanding and relationship to their body and promote sustainable and long-term progress.

The program is focused on building a base – right at the bottom of the pyramid to give you the tools and education necessary to be successful in the gym. More importantly, however, it provides the knowledge to continue to explore your fitness potential beyond the 12 weeks of BaseFit; both inside and outside the gym – whether you train at any time, F45, or CrossFit.

The BaseFit Pyramid outlines the four key program design factors in order of their significance. These are Intention, Experience, Competency Criteria, and Progression. In brief:

  • Intention provides context – a goal to work towards

  • Experience relates to the human to human connection and the environment created by our expert coaches

  • Competency Criteria are the points of technique – what elements of a squat, pull up or power clean are we looking for to be successful

  • Progression relates to the thoughtfully programmed stages throughout the 12 weeks of BaseFit, and to the progression into the next stage of your training post BaseFit.

Whether you’re the AnytimeFitnesser looking to transition into functional training…

BaseFit teaches you how to perform the foundational lifts, along with training in bodyweight, gymnastics, kettlebells, and Olympic weightlifting modalities.

Or you’re the F45er wanting the next challenge…

BaseFit workouts are programmed with a specific outcome in mind and teach you how to do the same. In each, you will be expressing a different aspect of fitness as well as shifting your paradigm around training to a far more sustainable and effective approach.

Perhaps, you are the burned-out CrossFitter

BaseFit focuses on a mobility and technique first approach. You’ll never be asked to go heavier, move faster or get after intensity just for intensity's sake. You’ll learn why you developed certain injuries in the first place and implement individualized prehab and recovery protocols to keep your body bulletproof.

Time to rewrite your fitness narrative.

A new story; a different page… An opportunity to build a proper base.
